A mini Guide on the best useful tools and websites to help you manage your travel by train within Italy.
Travelling by train is the cheapest option, not only compared to other means of transport in Italy, but train travel in Italy is cheaper than in the surrounding countries.

Freccia Rossa, fast train italy, fast train rome, fast train milan
There new trains that are also very fast such as FRECCIA ROSSA
A FrecciaRossa train journey from Milan to Rome for example with this train costs 114 euros for the 1st class and 89 euros for 2nd class.
Other fast trains are Eurostar or Treni Eurostar Italia which travels between major Italian cities, Intercity and Intercity Plus and Regionale, or regional trains which are cheaper by sometimes have only second class seats.
How To Buy A Ticket
You can buy train tickets online as well as at the train stations in Italy. Most clerks working in the stations have basic knowledge of English, but it is useful to make notes and check out the Italian phrases you need in order to buy a train ticket. Some larger train stations have two different offices for buying tickets, one is for buying tickets for the same day, and another one for tickets and reservations bought in advance.
You can also buy a ticket from a travel agent as most of them speak English, but not all travel agents can sell train tickets. If you think this may be too confusing, you can always ask for help from a Multilingual Virtual Assistant such as myself.
